In December 2004 we visited the Marfo (Martinair Food) catering facilities
in Lelystad (Netherlands), for our next Behind the Scenes photo
report.
Started by Martinair founder Mr Martin Schröder in the 1960's, this
company has now grown into a multi-caterer.
For not only does Marfo serve a large number of airlines (KLM, Northwest,
Martinair, United, US Airways, American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Thai
Air, Alitalia, Excel Airways, Korean Air, Air Transat, Royal Jordanian,
Aer Lingus, Dutchbird, Varig), it also provides meals to companies and
institutes such as IKEA and Dutch Army divisions, but also to prisons
and hospitals.
Marfo complies with the strict British health care regulations, which
actually makes it needless to say that this is definitely the cleanest,
the most hygienic catering facility we visited so far!
Marfo specializes in Frozen Foods, which results in a better
food quality than so called Chilled Foods, a higher vitamin C
level, frozen foods can be stored longer than chilled foods, and last
but not least: your meal looks better when it's served ;-)
