Comments: Meal was tasty and filling, but who combines Asian glass noodles with German sauerkraut? A case of extreme crossover cuisine? Furthermore: serving sauerkraut at the beginning of a 12-hour overnight flight is not an especially great idea. Unfortunately, the other dinner option was not available anymore when service reached me...

Route: Jo'burg JNB, South Africa - Züri ZRH, Switzerland, 21 Sep 2005
Ticket price: ID
Flight duration: 10h 35m
Class: economy
Aircraft: Airbus A340-211, ZS-SLD
Meal: dinner - main - Dinner: Beef with safran rice and vegetables, salad and chocolate cake.
Breakfast: Croissant, fruit salad, low-fat yoghurt, egg, patatoes and a tomato.
Drink: Pre-dinner drink: Gin tonic, South African Red Wine, tea after meal; Ginger Ale during the night; OJ and tea during breakfast
Comments: The meat was not very tender (one point off), but overall a good meal. Apart of the strange low-fat yoghurt the breakfast was nice, not many airlines still serve hot breakfast, additionally they made two coffee services. I have to take another point off for the lack of Baileys after dinner and half a point for not giving us a bottle of water before the night as they did on the flight to South Africa.

Flight duration: 1h 10m
Class: economy
Aircraft: Boeing 737-844, ZS-SJU
Meal: snack - Chicken-mayo sandwich
Drink: Hot Castle Beer
Comments: The service began, we got the sandwich and had to wait nearly 20 minutes for the drink. When I was finally served the beer (you can see that I finished the sandwich in the meantime) it was really warm. The sandwich was ok, but in all I was disappointed, the course of the service wasn't good, it should be possible to get the sandwich and the (cool) beverage at the same time.

Meal: snack - Cheese and beef sandwich
Drink: Ginger Ale, later on tea
Comments: As the flight left at 10 a.m. I didn't expect too much, a sandwich was reasonable. They made two bar services! The topping of the sandwich was good, the bread however very cold and a bit hard. Not a highlight for my 175th flight.

Meal: dinner - main - Dinner: Choice of chinese chicken or beef stroganoff, prawn salad and a mousse of chocolat.
Breakfast: Choice of egg or cold meat (not pictured)
Drink: Gin Tonic (pre-dinner drink), South African Red Wine, later on tea; tea and OJ during breakfast
Comments: It's nice to get a pre-dinner drink, but they forgot the salted nuts. Also, you have to order the drinks for the meal at the same time as there is no more drink service with the meal, which I think is a bit strange. The picture with the tea is my 150th picture for this site ;-)
The meals were quite good, but is has nothing to do with chinese chicken or stroganoff...
The breakfast was a classic plane-breakfast. However some airlines substituted the plate by a cardbox with nothing inside, I still prefer the trays.

3: Night snack of Turkey sandwich (Muslim meal)
4: Break Fast Muslim with omelette with chicken sausage and vegetable patty. Fresh fruits and muesli with milk.

Drink:
Comments: Dinner was pretty good and chicken curry and rice really made my day. Muslim meal here was a "real" muslim meal and not just a vegetarian food like other airlines.
Turkey sandwich was pretty good too and may be we liked it because we were pretty hungry after the first leg of flight.
Breakfast was again quite good with chicken sausage which was really tasty and fresh fruits etc.

Thinking about the whole duration of flight I think food was small in quantity but good in taste.
High ranking for giving actual Muslim meal and not just vegetrain food and also based on taste. They could have secured perfect 10 if food quantity was alittle more too.

Turkey sandwich was pretty good too and may be we liked it because we were pretty hungry after the first leg of flight.
Breakfast was tasty but still too little.

Not only a good variety, but very tasty, topped off with a great mix of sauces, from wasabi to mustard to fruit sauces - I can honestly say the best in-flight meal service ever provided.
