Flying from: Sydney to Brisbane, 2 March 2003
Flight duration: 1 hour 10 mins
Aircraft type & class: Boeing 737-400 Economy (VH-TJW), 2 class aircraft.
Meal type: “Breakfast” – 6.30am departure - What was in the meal?: Bowl of Just-Right cereal, freezing cold very small red apple, soggy tasteless “fruit” muffin.
Drink: Orange juice, tea / coffee, milk for coffee, separate milk for cornflakes.
Comments: "It’s impossible to stuff up cereal, but not very satisfying either. The muffin was deceptively glue-like and flavourless (just a filler) and stuck all over my fingers. I had to wash it off with my orange juice. Knowing that hot meals are extremely rare on domestic flights, I won’t complain.. but others did. “Did you see that apple? 2 bites and it’s finished!” and “They could have at least served us something hot!”. If you’d paid full fare you would have been a little peeved, considering this was a 6.30am departure. The aircraft had no spare seat, was in need of an interior refurbishment, and an external paint-job. The in-flight entertainment however was good. (an Australian comedy + newspapers). Tea and coffee came through twice. I fully support Qantas in their efforts to take on the world but this was not one of my better experiences. Qantas, unlike Qantaslink, calls itself a full-service airline. 2 years ago, a Qantas breakfast consisted of a hot sausage, bacon, hot eggs with mushrooms & grilled tomato. Sigh, since the collapse of Ansett and Impulse, we’re back to a cosy duopoly down under… but this time without a hot breakfast."
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 4. A sandwich would have been better. If they’d called this meal a “MORNING SNACK” instead of “BREAKFAST” I might have been more impressed. But… I concede … Maybe us Aussie’s have just been spoilt.

Meal type: snack - chicken peices, samon, cheese, busicuts, roll
Drink: red wine, lemonade, water
Comments: "Not bad.. i went economy class on the way down, same type jet and time of day and would rather eat the economy snack (was more filling)... but then again im just your typical aussie bloke who would be happy sitting infront of a TV watching cricket and drinking a fosters!"
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 7.5

Aircraft type & class: Boeing 747-400ER Economy
Meal type: Morning Refreshment (Economy) - OJ, Fruit Salad, Banana Pecan Muffin, Spanish Omellette and Chicken Sausage, Shortbread Biscuit
Drink: Coffee, Bottle of Water
Comments: "As a disclaimer I have to admit, it tasted and looked a lot better than it appears in this photo. This is part of Qantas' new upgraded International Economy service. The clear perspex meal tray along with the redesigned service ware was a HUGE improvement over what it used to be. tho' this is hard to tell from the photo. For once, the marketing is true, the food is much better and the portions have increased. Also the individual bottles of water and (later) wine were a great touch. Having flown this run many times and found it very very average i simply couldn't fault the service, food or the brand spanking new 747-400ER. The IFE is pretty cool too."

Comments: "Meal consisted of Luken and May Crusted brushetta bread dusted in olive oil, complimented by a pea and lentil dip, real mccoy potato chips and water. Pretty bland meal all round. Also as this was after 4pm, alchohol should have been served, but QF only serve alcohol free on weekdays after 4pm on their cityflyer service."

Meal type: Breakfast
Drink: Juice
Comments: "Well I decided to order a kosher meal. This is what I was served, an apple and orange and juice. I was 'recommended' from a fellow traveller that this was a good idea, never do this if you fly QF, as this is what you will get whilst others will get a nice big boxed breakfast consisting of muesli bars, pastries, ceral as well as diced fruit. I'm sure QF could have done better than serve up this type of food."
