Comments:
Salad was good. fresh and tasty. Love the Japanese shiso dressing. The entree was good too. Meat was hot and tender. Gravy wasn't too salty. Dessert was good I always like the fact that NW gives you options for dessert. I like a sweet dessert AND cheese and crackers and you can get both on NW. The pre-arrival meal was asian noodles w/ chicken. Although it doesn't look that tasty, it was actually really very good.

Comments: the appetizers were tasty. grilled shrimp, warmed nuts and a roast beef canape. The japanese meal was ok. The soba noodles were stuck together and the wasabi was almost watery, not normally the consistency of wasabi. The rice was fine. The main entree, not shown, was a broiled fish. pretty good. The dessert was awesome. Ben and Jerry's ice-cream in a chocolate cookie dish AND cheese and crackers.

Chocolate Cheesecake with whipped cream and chocolate shavings
Drink: Sierra Mist and Water
Comments:
The salad was fresh and crunchy. The bread was hot and soft just the way NW always serves it. The main course may have looked bad, but it surprising tasted good. This is one of the instances where I can say “don’t judge a book by its cover.” The dessert was great as well; the chocolate shavings added a nice touch. All in all this was a very impressive meal for a two-hour flight on a DC-9; where I expected nothing but a cold plate.

Contents of the meal (as per package descriptions): Vegetarian Pizza Bread with tomato & cheese; Pistachio Ice Cream
Drink: Diet Pepsi; hot tea (not pictured).
Comments: Great snack. I had the same snack flying from FRA-DTW last January. This pizza bread contained American Cheese placed on top of the bread, and then topped with two slices of tomato and then the bread was folded over. The entire thing was heated so that the cheese was nice and gooey. This was a very good snack and not greasy at all so it makes me think that this was a rather healthy alternative to real pizza. The ice cream was good...I only had a spoonful because I dislike pistachio. It tasted like it was a very high quality creamy ice cream. I'm surprised they don't stick with the common ice creams like vanilla/chocolate. To me, pistachio seems a little risky with nut allergies, etc.

Drink: Diet Sierra Mist; hot tea.
Comments: Pretty good tasting meal. The pasta was great but didn't appear so. The contents were divided into tomato sauce, spinich, and pasta which was then topped with cheese. It had to be mixed up before being eaten to get the full flavor. The Mediterranean salad was tomato based and drenched in olive oil so I didn't eat much of that. It was accompanied by some lettuce leaves. I loved the cheese and crackers. And then the dessert...really quite strange. I have never seen nor eaten anything like it before. It was not very good and the combination was puzzling.

Drink:: Sierra Mist
Comments: Other choice was an Oriental chicken pasta salad deal, the gentleman across the aisle got this first, but it didn't look so good to me so I opted for the "plain" sandwich. Pizza bread containing two slices of tomato and mozzarella cheese; cup of strawberry ice cream from Belgium.
Drink:: Diet Pepsi.
Comment: Nice warm calzone made with very soft dough that reminded me of a pizza hut breadstick. This was served within 35 minutes of landing so it was a very rushed meal service. The spoilers were out and we were descending when I received this snack. I had almost come to the conclusion that Northwest cut out the arrival snack service on its trans-Atlantic hops. I didn’t have time to finish my ice cream but the two spoonfuls I had were very tasty.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best: 7 (I would have liked to have had marinara sauce to dip this in as it was somewhat dry). Also, it would have been nice to have had more time to enjoy the meal (flight was very empty so maybe this was the reason for the late service and quick clean-up)

Drink:: Diet Sierra Mist; Diet Pepsi; hot tea.
Comment: Appetizer was a bit disappointing but the main meal was superb! The pasta turned out to be three long spinach filled ravioli in an extremely tasty marinara sauce topped with mozzarella cheese. Additional warm rolls were given out as well. Other meal choice was beef. Spinzels were served before the meal service…these make for a great snack, I’ll be ordering some on-line.

Route: NRT-HNL, 15 Jan 2004
Ticket price: USD 1850 (for YVR-BKK r/t not upgraded)
Flight duration: 5:50
Aircraft, class: 747-400 World Business Class
Business or leisure: Leisure
Meal: Dinner
New WBC meal service(?):
Light appetiser consisting of mixed nuts, 1 chicken yakitori stick, 2 tune belly sashimi;
Western meal of salad and choice of chicken and (beef?); or Japanese shokado meal;
Dessert cart: chocolate, strawberry icecream, fruit salad. No menus catered
Eisen sake, Veuve Cliquot champagne
Comments; Appetiser plate was great if you like Japanese food. Salad was heart and good with the japanese "mishu" dressing but reportedly a bit salty for YVR cockroachess's taste. Chicken main had generous serving and tasty. Shokado meal (pre-reserved though I had my choice seated in 1J) was good as ever. Some unagi, chicken & egg, seafood/seaweed salad, vegetables and pickles, sushi and rice package, soup and more pickles. My favorite on MW trans-Pacific flights.

Meal: Pre-arrival snack
2 deep-fried rolls, spicy BBQ chicken, open-faced sandwiches, pastry

Comments: YVR cockroachess opines the deep-friend rolls were good. I was still too full from breakfast. Sushi with bread instead of rice was a bit odd.

Meal: Breakfast
Farmer's omelette (wedge with tomato, sausage and asparagus) or Thai chicken with basil, egg, baby corn & rice; fruit salad (dragon fruit, water melon, pomelo, cantaloupe, wedge of lime), pastries, yoghurt
Veuve Cliquot champagne
Comments: Good, solid but somewhat uninspiring meal. Identical to what was served a year ago but omelette was actually good and didn't draw complaints. The Thai chicken might look odd but quite tasty (at least if you are asian)
And yes, NW provides metal cutlery
