Flying: the once-daily non-stop flight from Los Angeles LAX
to Amsterdam AMS, 18 December 2002
Aircraft type & class: not sure but I think 747, economy
Meal Type: Breakfast (Vegetarian) - Potato wedges, grain and
nut ball and corn tamale with tomato sauce. Grapefruit and orange. Bagel.
Drink: Coffee/tea
Comments: "The grain and nut ball was kind of bland and
difficult to identify what was actually in it. The fruit was so bitter, we couldn't
eat it at all which is a shame really because it would have been refreshing.
The tamale was a good and moist, the corn in it was sweet. The bagel was okay.
It was a really filling meal, which on the bad side means that the already really
cramped seats felt even more so. The score includes one point for creativity."

Class: Business Class
Meal type: Poached egg with tomato sauce and chicken sausage
served with creamed potato and spinach, fresh fruit, cheese, raisin muffin,
and yogurt.
Drink: Tea
Comments: "Only in Europe do you get mashed potatoes and
spinach for breakfast, but it was pretty good in hour 11 of this 12 hour flight.
The breakfast menu on KLM is a la carte. A breakfast card is handed out with
dinner. Mark your selection, return the card, and when the lights come on for
breakfast there's your meal just like you ordered."

Flying from: Singapore SIN to Amsterdam AMS, 11 September 2002
Class: Business Class
Meal type: Late Dinner - On this late night flight (departed
SIN at 10:30 pm) KLM offered "a trio of menu options to suit your special
requirements." There was a choice of a "Quick Snack" that consisted
of finger food for those who wanted to eat and sleep, or a "Light, Healthy
Cold Supper", which was the Hot Supper without the entrée, or "A
Hot Supper."
This is the Hot Supper. From the menu: Fish Platter appetizer. "Mackerel
in teriyaki marinade and smoked salmon with dill served with sweet mustard dressing
and crudites." The entree is Szechuan Chicken. "Tender chicken in
a spicy marinade served with kale, diced pepper and rice." And for dessert,
Custard Pudding: "Apple and nut dessert served with cinnamon custard, cream
and fruit."
Comments: "Not real crazy about the desert, but the rest
of the meal was quite good."
