Flying from: Peking to Dubrovnik
Flight duration: 12 hours

Comments I have no idea what was in the meals, but this
was a VIP flight with some ministers from China, so those had to be great meals.

Flying from: Shanghai PVG to San Francisco SFO, 3 November
2002
Aircraft type: B747 combi
Meal: Vegetarian Dinner - Sauteed vegetables and rice
Comments "Special order meals were presented before
the carts were pulled into the aisles. The special meals were delivered from
the front galley. In our cabin, the carts came from the rear galley. No complaints
were heard, so I assume the meal was satisfying."

Flying from: Shanghai PVG to San Francisco SFO, 3 November
2002
Aircraft type: B747 combi
Meal: Vegetarian Breakfast - Fried noodles with vegetables,
marinated vegetables and cut melon.
Comments "We looked on in envy for the fried noodles
and nicely colored vegetables. No complaints were heard. The meal was presented
very promptly at the start of the breakfast service from the forward galley.
In our cabin, the service carts came from the rear galley. Considering how our
seats had not been assigned until check-in at the airport, the distribution
of special meals was very efficient."

Flying from: Shanghai PVG to San Francisco SFO, 3 November
2002
Aircraft type: B747 combi
Meal: Breakfast - Spicy marinated vegetables, rice congee,
cut melon, roll and butter.
Drink: Tea
Comments 'This was the Chinese breakfast selection.
There rice congee was sticky and tasteless, as expected, but usually several
offerings of pickles and sliced meats should also be offered -- had to dump
the marinated vegetables into the porridge to give it some taste. A roll filled
with cold cuts was offered later, but the turkey cold cuts were off-putting;
did not finish. Meals for row mates appeared more appetizing."
Rating 1-10 (worst to best): 3 for the marinated vegetables.

Flying from: San Francisco SFO to Beijing PEK, 17/18 October
2002
Aircraft type & class: 747-400 combi -- Economy
Meal: Box Snack - A bun filled with Tuna Salad, Oreo Cookies
Drink: Water (not shown)
Comments "This was the third service on 12-hour
flight. The bun was a like typical chinese sweet bread that is usually filled
with roasted pork (cha siu), so the tuna filling was a surprise. I wasn't hungry
after the two filling hot meals, but not knowing when we would get to the hotel,
I ate the tuna roll anyway."

Meal: Dinner - Chicken Salad, Glazed Sauted Chicken with
Carrots, Zucchini, and Mashed Potatoes with white gravy and peas, Sliced Melon,
Bread and Butter
Drink: Hot Tea (served later)
Comments "A second hot meal of a 12 hour flight
was served midway across the Pacific; this appeared to be the western selection.
The white gravy was too sweet and overpowered the glaze on the chicken and vegetables."
