Just wondering, what's the shortest flight that you've been on that's actually had a filling meal in economy class?
For me, it was a one and a half hour night from Taipei to Hong Kong. CX served us a dish that had 2 pieces of bok choy, a nice bit of steamed rice, and some fried fish (cod possibly) with garlic sauce. We also had a few pieces of fruit and a kit kat bar! Personally, i was REALLY amazed at the meal. On Continental (the most commonly found airline in my area), they would NEVER have food like that for such a short flight. I mean...i've flown from SFO to EWR with only a DRINK SERVICE! A DISGRACE!
so anyway, i'd like to hear about these filling meals...![]()

In the late 80s/early 90s Lufthansa offered a gate buffet on their domestic flights. In the gate area of the flight there were several baskets with different sandwiches, chocolate bars, fruits, yoghurt,... and you were allowed to take as much as you want!!! In First Class they served a hot meal on those 45min flights from FRA to MUC.
I also had a good breakfast on an Air Zimbabwe flight from HRE to VFA (less than 1 hour) but also in the early 90s. Today you have to be gratefull if they serve you a sanwich and a cookie in F on a domestic transcon in the U.S. ![]()

My shortest flight with a filling meal was a morning charter flight from Innsbruck to Paris, which is about one hour and some minutes. Operated by Lauda Air, catered by Do&Co: A platter of cold cuts (salami, spicy bacon, dry sausage), cream cheese, brie and cheese slices, accompanied by tomato-slices, pickled cucumbers, little corncobs, pearl onions and peppers (chiles); warm, fresh rolls, Tiroler-butter, Darbo-marmalade (apricots); on top of that a refreshing yoghurt mixed with sour milk.

Summer of 2001 flying for Nice to London Gatwick in Euro Traveller/Economy with British Airways on an Avro RJ100. Flight just under 2 hours long. Full drinks service with peanuts, followed by hot towels. 3 course hot meal service followed. Enjoyed the eclairs so much that I asked for more (an advantage of sitting at the back). I was offered one, then another ... and another. In fact, it got to the point where I was actually refusing any more food. Now all you get is a sandwich and one drink.

About 14 years ago, on KLM, AMS to LHR - a 45 min flight at 4pm in the afternoon. It was a hot chicken cassorle dish, bread roll, salad, cheese and biscuit and a sweet. I had just done BNE-SYD-MEL-BKK-AMS so it felt rather filling!

I travel well over 100,000 miles per year these days, but my very first trip outside the USA was to Switzerland for skiing in the Swiss Alps in December 1985. It was on Air France, LAX-CDG-GVA. I will never forget being served wine at the ripe old age of 17! The flight from CDG to GVA is about an hour, but we were served a full meal of salmon, salad, bread, wine and a kind of shrimp in pasty thing. It was delicious.
Longest flight without a proper meal was probably the now defunct Tower Air from LAS to JFK in 1997. I think that they served sodas, coffee and water.
Delta has (or had) a great flight back then when I was living in Las Vegas, you left JFK about 11:00pm and arrived Las Vegas about 2:00am. The flight was rarely full so you could just grab a row in the back and camp out. No meals at all for 5 hours.
